On Bicycling Benefits

by Leslie Corzo

How would you want to save the earth at the same time save also your money? Moreover, do you also want to be healthier? Well think no more because there are lots of bicycling benefits you can gain for just riding it few days every week. You really do not have to panic if for example it has been so long since you had your ride. There is really no harm in trying. And everything will be worth the try. It is fun and yes you get to ride a bike again.

First of all, bicycling does not harm our precious environment. Since the bicycle only needs fewer resources compared to a car, then it also follows that it has lesser impact compared to the impact a car can give to the environment. Since bicycles do not have emissions, air remains clean and unpolluted. Research shows that 40% of automobile trips are within two miles from your home, 60% of pollution from emissions occurs when the engine is cold, that is usually the first few minutes from starting the engine. True enough if you use a bicycle in a four-mile trip, you get to avoid 15 pounds of pollutants.

You see there are a lot of benefits you can get. You need no new skills to learn since you have been riding it since you were little. Getting started is the only thing you must do to make these all happen. This is a kind of exercise that is not hard but fun and exciting. You can even ask to do it with your family and loved ones. Put your bicycle on a trainer and ride indoors if the weather suggests you to stay inside your house. Fruits are achieved through hard work, so as in bicycling. You have to make a commitment to bicycle several times a week.

Bicycling can also do good to your health. In 2000, 16.6% of all mortality were due to obesity. This is already very scary since it is almost equal to those caused by cigarette smoking. Some benefits are, first it helps you lose weight, second it improves cardiovascular fitness, thus reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. You also have a better and improved circulation that greatly minimizes aches and pains, and there are joint movements included that can reduce the risk of arthritis. You get to boost up your immune system for a better protection. Bicycling reduces the blood level of cortisol in your body. This is a good sign since it has been associated with the mysterious Syndrome X that is considered a cluster of conditions and symptoms including heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and diabetes.

The economy can likewise gain benefits from bicycling. Of course it has never been a secret to everyone that cars are more expensive than bicycles. Bicycles do not need you to buy gasoline for it to start and maintenance is cheaper than car maintenance. More to that, it can also cut on the bills you spend for health care since you get to exercise while doing it. True enough, research proves that an obese person can pay up to $1500 more in medical costs annually compared to those spent by fit persons. Moreover you get to have lesser Medicare and Medicaid payments if you are fit, thus taxpayer dollars are lesser too.
